Declarations of intention, 1845-1911.

Declarations of intention to become citizens. Information in the declarations varies. The earlier declarations include declarant's name and state of former allegiance and the date of declaration. Later declarations usually include the following information: declarant's name, address, occupation, physical description, race, nationality, birthplace, date of birth, and city or town, and country of last foreign residence, and the port and the date of approximate date of arrival, port of entry, and name of vessel on which individual entered the country.

Konrad Bercovici was a screenwriter who became close friends with actor and director Charlie Chaplin. In this lawsuit, Bercovici claimed that Chaplin had plagiarized from him the idea for Chaplin's film "The Great Dictator." The case went to trial in 1947, with Louis Nizer and Walter S.
